How to Install XCodes IPTV on Firestick and Fire TV (Step by Step)

Set up XCodes IPTV on Firestick or Fire TV: check Fire OS vs Vega OS, install a player from the Appstore or with Downloader, then sign in.

Amazon's Fire TV devices are among the most popular ways to watch IPTV in the US, UK and Germany. They are cheap, simple, and run most IPTV player apps. This guide covers the whole process, from checking which kind of Fire TV you have to signing in with your XCodes IPTV login.

Before you start: check which Fire TV operating system you have

This step matters more than it used to. Most Fire TV devices run Fire OS, which is based on Android and can run Android player apps. Amazon has started releasing some newer devices with Vega OS, which does not run Android apps and does not allow installing apps from outside the Amazon Appstore.

To check:

  1. Open Settings (the gear icon on the far right of the home screen).
  2. Go to My Fire TV (called Device & Software on some models).
  3. Select About, then look at the software or OS version.

If it shows Fire OS, follow the whole guide. If it shows Vega OS, you can only use player apps that are available in the Amazon Appstore for your device — skip to "Option A".

What you need

  • A Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K / 4K Max, Fire TV Cube or Fire TV smart TV
  • Your XCodes IPTV login (server URL, username and password, or an M3U link) — see the login guide if you're unsure what each field means
  • About 15 minutes

Option A: install a player app from the Amazon Appstore

This is the simplest route and works on every Fire TV.

  1. From the home screen, select Find (the magnifying glass), then Search.
  2. Search for "IPTV player". The available apps change over time and differ by country.
  3. Open an app's page and check that its description mentions Xtream Codes or M3U support.
  4. Select Get or Download, then Open.

Read the app's reviews and recent update date before you choose. An app that hasn't been updated in years may struggle on newer Fire OS versions.

Option B: install an app with Downloader (Fire OS only)

Some popular player apps are not in the Amazon Appstore but offer an official download for Android devices on their own website. The free Downloader app (from AFTVnews, available in the Appstore) lets you install these.

Step 1: Install Downloader

Search the Appstore for "Downloader", install it, and open it once so it appears in your apps.

Step 2: Enable developer options

On recent Fire OS versions, developer options are hidden by default:

  1. Go to Settings → My Fire TV → About.
  2. Highlight your device name (for example "Fire TV Stick 4K") and press the select button seven times.
  3. A message confirms that you are now a developer. Press back — Developer Options now appears in the My Fire TV menu.

Step 3: Allow Downloader to install apps

  1. Go to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options.
  2. Select Install unknown apps (or Apps from Unknown Sources on older versions).
  3. Turn it on for Downloader only. Leave it off for any other app.

Step 4: Download the player app

  1. Open Downloader and enter the download address published on the player app's official website.
  2. When the download finishes, select Install.
  3. After installation, choose Done and then Delete to remove the installer file and free up space.

You can now turn "Install unknown apps" off again for Downloader if you won't be installing anything else.

Sign in with your XCodes IPTV login

Open the player app. Every app is laid out differently, but the steps are the same:

  1. Choose Add playlist, Add user or Login.
  2. Select Xtream Codes (or Xtream API). Choose M3U URL only if Xtream isn't available.
  3. Enter the server URL, including http:// and any port, then your username and password.
  4. Give the playlist a name and select Save or Add user.
  5. Wait while the app loads channels, films, series and the TV guide. The first load can take a few minutes.

Get the best performance on a Firestick

Fire TV sticks are small computers with limited memory. These settings make a real difference:

  • Use Ethernet if you can. Amazon sells an Ethernet adapter for Fire TV sticks; a wired connection is far more stable than Wi-Fi.
  • Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi if you can't go wired, and move the stick away from the back of the TV with the HDMI extender that comes in the box.
  • Clear the app cache if menus slow down: Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → [your app] → Clear cache. Don't use "Clear data" unless you're happy to sign in again.
  • Uninstall apps you don't use so the stick has more free storage.
  • Restart weekly: Settings → My Fire TV → Restart.

Frequently asked questions

Does XCodes IPTV work on every Firestick?

It works on any Fire TV device that can run a compatible player app. Fire OS devices can use Appstore apps and, with Downloader, official Android downloads. Vega OS devices are limited to Appstore apps.

Is it safe to turn on "Install unknown apps"?

It is safe if you only enable it for Downloader and only install apps from their official developers. Turn it off again when you're done.

Which Firestick is best for 4K IPTV?

Choose a 4K-capable model such as the Fire TV Stick 4K or 4K Max, and make sure your TV, HDMI port and internet connection also support 4K. See how much internet speed IPTV needs.

Why does my Firestick say "storage almost full"?

Player apps cache channel logos and guide data. Clear the cache of apps you use, uninstall ones you don't, and delete leftover installer files in Downloader.
